Sermon August 13 – Proper 19

 Generous God,
you sent your Holy Spirit
to be the life and light of your Church.
Open our hearts to the riches of your grace,
that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit
in love, joy, and peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

 Every Faithless Murmur Stilled

 Would you like to walk on water? Actually take a few steps on the top like Jesus and Peter did? And if you’ve seen the Shack movie – McKenzie the main actor does too.

It seems surreal – impossible. It seems like someone maybe made it up for the gospel story to make Jesus look so incredible and encourage us to step out in faith and do astonishing things with Christ.

The news I’d like to share today is that whether we realize it or not we have been walking on water for a very long time – each of us – and we continue to do so!
